See moreJust at the few min walk from Tokyo St. Yaesu Exit, I came across with "Machi Mobi" station, the tour rental office of the new mobility RODEM. It was refreshing to cruise along the pedestrian road, experiencing the city from a perspective different from walking or cycling, almost like rediscovering familiar sights with fresh eyes.
Manipulating the joystick felt a bit awkward at first, but within a couple of minutes, it became second nature. The mobility device turned on a dime, navigating tight corners with ease, and it didn't bother pedestrians on the sidewalk as I feared.
The driver's seat was designed at a height that's at eye level with people walking by. While I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little self-conscious at first, I also felt strangely integrated into the city's flow, not like an outsider (at least to myself). A charming touch was the small cowbell that jingled softly when starting and stopping, a cute way to alert others of the vehicle's presence. (Jan 2024)
